This full size vase is thrown on the potters wheel from speckled stoneware clay. Before the clay is fully dry, I hand-paint the coloured parts of the tattoo design. I then coat the design in a layer of wax resist, before carving the outline and words “True Love” through to the clay below. Once the vase is bone dry I paint black underglaze into the outline and wipe the excess off of the wax resist. Finished with transparent glaze.
